Follow Ports of Jersey’s (PofJ) progress towards bringing the Elizabeth Marina walls to life. This innovative project hopes to overcome the challenges of bare concrete walls that present little opportunity for a marine life community, as found on our traditional harbour walls.

The project has been made possible through the committed aims by Ports of Jersey to biologically enhance the modern St Helier harbour infrastructure. They have funded the purchase of 48 tiles and installation by their engineering team.
Two sites have been set up: A control site of 24 tiles near the La Collette outfall and the 24 wall tile installation in Elizabeth Marina.

A team that included engineers from Ports of Jersey, scientists and volunteers from JMC spent 3 days installing the tiles.

Monitoring has now begun and will continue for 3 years during which time careful evidence will be gathered using high resolution images and eDNA (Through the help of Professor Jamie Stevens and the department of Biosciences, Exeter University). Vice Chair Gareth Jeffreys is leading the study helped by Simon Watkins, Kevin McIlwee and Mike Sheldon.

If you would like to visit the tiles JMC will be running special introductions open to schools and community groups. We would be happy to organise site visits (at low tide) to the sites.
