Protecting Jersey’s Seas — Together

Your support is helping to safeguard one of Jersey’s most valuable natural assets: our marine environment.

Thanks to donor-funded research and photographic evidence, we played a key role in establishing Jersey’s largest Marine Protected Area, which remains the Island’s most significant. Our work has been instrumental in protecting fragile maerl and seagrass beds, and directly influenced an unprecedented agreement by French fishermen to reduce seabed harvesting — a major step forward for sustainable fisheries.

Over the years, we have collected more than 20,000 verified marine species records, providing essential data to Marine Resources, the National Biodiversity Network, leading universities, and informing the creation of Jersey’s Marine Spatial Plan. This evidence-based approach ensures marine decisions are grounded in science, not assumption.

We also lead the only annual marine forum in Jersey that brings together Government, NGOs, schools, and non-profit organisations to coordinate action on the most urgent marine threats — from climate change and plastic pollution to over-exploitation of our seas.

Education is at the heart of lasting change. Our innovative and engaging education programme reaches the vast majority of local schools, colleges, and community groups, inspiring the next generation to understand, value, and protect the marine environment.
