This new page is about our current and ongoing projects.
Pink Seafans – The Future Jersey Project
Since 2019 we have been carrying out a study on Pink Seafans and their importance within our Marine environment, focusing on the role they play. This has required the collection of data about the habitats, densities and surrounding Biodiversity. The project was made possible with the help of the Association of Jersey Charities and the Channel Islands Lottery Fund. We hope this study will be ongoing however a scientific paper will be published later in 2022 reporting on the current findings.
(Pink Sefans became a protected species in Jersey Waters in 2021 with the passing of the Wildlife Law).
Seagrass Meadows – restoration and protection
This project is beginning in 2022 and running for a minimum of three years is under the leadership of Emil Dow our Science and Education Officer. She will be completing an MSc on her findings.
This is probably the first joint project of this nature ever to be undertaken in Jersey and is a unique cooperation between ourselves, Ports of Jersey, Jersey Centre of Advanced Studies (JICAS), The Blue Marine Foundation and Jersey’s Marine Resources. The study will link up with the JICAS Blue Carbon PhD study. We are very grateful to the Jersey Community Fund and its partners, particularly ATF Fuels who have provided a substantial donation.
