Butterfield Competition 2022

Take part in the Butterfield design-a-tea towel competition

In partnership with Butterfield and as part of our Marine Mission event to celebrate World Wetlands Day 2022, we’re inviting year four and five pupils to enter our marine-themed Butterfield design-a-tea towel competition.

The competition

In teams of 5 to 10, we want pupils to work together to create a tea towel design that celebrates Jersey’s wetlands, rock pools and the marine creatures found there, and demonstrates the importance these play in our island life.

Why take part?

A creative-eyed judging panel will comb through the entries to pick a winning design from each school, as well as an overall winner.

The overall winning team will get to see their tea towel come to life, with each member getting to take one home with them. The winning tea towel will then go on sale to the public at events, shops and visitor centres, with 75% of the proceeds going towards Jersey Marine Conservation and to help us promote the importance of what we do! The top team will also win a Bioblitz excursion, courtesy of the Jersey Marine Conservation, and a pack of Butterfield Tidal Toppers each.

Each school’s winning team will also receive a pack of Butterfield Tidal Toppers for each team member and will have their designs put on display in the Radisson Blu at the Jersey Marine Conservation’s Marine Mission event on Sunday 30 – Monday 31 January[FL1]  2022. There will also be highly commended designs which will also go on display over the two-day event.

Taking part will be a great opportunity for the children to learn about wetland ecosystems, why they’re important to the environment and should be protected, and all the amazing creatures who live there.

How do you get involved?

If you’d like your school to take part, please send an e-mail to Giorgina Lister at Butterfield Bank, Jersey using the form below and let her know how many teams you will be entering.

You will be sent a number of A3 templates for the teams to draw their designs onto, which match the correct dimensions needed for the tea towel. Of course, we will also provide you with a few extra in case any teams want to start over! Designs can be drawn in pencil initially but once completed will need to be traced over using a marker pen (we will provide a sharpie per school) so that it can be easily transformed into a tea towel if it is chosen as the winning design. There will also be a few details to fill in on the templates so we know what school/team the design belongs to.

Teams will have until the end of the Autumn term to submit their entries and the winning designs will be announced in January in the JEP plus via Butterfield and Jersey Marine Conservation’s social media channels. Entries once complete can be dropped off at Butterfield’s reception during office hours or be sent via post to: Marketing Team, Butterfield Bank, St Paul’s Gate, New St, St Helier, Jersey, JE4 5PU

We hope that you will join us in celebrating our local marine environments.
